Warm-Up in Berlin/DE

“Gather Around Light” is an initiative of the Berlin lighting community. The newly developed event format has the goal of establishing and encouraging exchange between lighting professionals.

The first of a series of future gatherings will take place on 17. May, 2017 in Berlin and will offer insight on two ongoing projects of architectural and lighting design interest, and targets everyone in the lighting community, as well as interdisciplinary professors, clients and users.
The event will be an official warm-up event for PLDC 2017 in Paris.
The event is divided into two parts: the informative part of the event will take place in the afternoon (in German) and the casual get-together will take place in the evening.
Attendance is free-of-charge, but there are limited seats available for the excursion tours.


Excursion 1:
Berliner Schloss Humboldt Forum

Two project managers from the Franco Stella Project Community, one lighting designer from Lichtvision, and the manager of the Humboldt Forum will be there to guide attendees on a journey through the “castle” developing on the site. They will be presenting their ideas and concept approaches with regard to city planning, façade architecture, the cupola, the interior halls and exhibition halls, and the correlation of architecture and lighting design. The presentation on lighting will focus on the exhibition design.

Excursion 2:
Rotes Rathaus underground stations

Attendees will gain insight into the building process. The building is due to be completed in 2020, when it will be presented to the public. The architects from CollignonArchitecture will guide the tour through the Rotes Rathaus underground station site and explain the different building phases, as well as the future design of the space. Furthermore, LichtKunstLicht will present the lighting design concept. In conclusion, the modern lighting scheme will be compared with the existing situation in historic Berlin underground stations.

Attendees: The first 200 attendees to arrive will receive free catering vouchers.

Following the afternoon programme, a get-together will be held in the Märchenhütte. After a drinks reception and short welcoming speeches, VIA and the Berlin lighting community will be offering the guests delicious finger food (including vegetarian and vegan), as well as a few little surprises…
The event will serve as the official kick-off to the “Gather Around Light” initiative and is also an official PLDC 2017 warm-up event.

The Märchenhütte is located in the heart of Berlin, in Monbijoupark. From the other two locations, it can be reached on foot in 15 minutes and has excellent public transport connections.
